Who we are
Company Structure

Para-Site Theatre Company consists of two Company Directors, Lydia Fraser-Ward and Tamara von Werthern, who are founding members and act as director and writer respectively in the process of developing new work. In previous years, they have performed in some of the work, but more recently have concentrated on the production process and have collaborated with a wider group of freelance performers and artists.
Christian Schmermer has acted as the Para-Site photographer since the company began work in 2002. His input has been a crucial part of our creative process, documenting the rehearsals, creating the company’s publicity images as well as creating a visual record of our performances and audience reactions to pass on to future audiences and collaborators. We work with numerous other freelance artists, some of whom are listed on the left, but we are constantly drawing creative inspiration from an ever-expanding pool of collaborators, chosen specifically to suit the needs of each project.
Auditions are held to make connections with new performers and dancers, and these are regularly advertised on the Arts Council’s ArtsJobs mailing list, which is free and easy to join. These auditions take the form of a one-day workshop where we assess each candidate’s personal skills as well as their ability to work with others in an ensemble environment, devising and sharing ideas. We always strive to create a relaxed and informal atmosphere during both the audition and rehearsal sessions so that the artists and performers feel comfortable improvising and can be forthcoming about their ideas. We often work with performers several times if their objectives and working practice suits those of the company and opportunities often arise for involvement at a more senior level to provide essential experience and training for professionals.
