Love-struck!
The Waygood Gallery, Newcastle
| 'Love-struck!' is the sequel to 'Missing Out', following the fate of Sylvia after she leaves the toilet. As part of The Waygood Gallery's Postal Weekend, this solo performance took place across several levels of the warehouse and amongst other live performances, art works and experiments. We see Sylvia one year on, all dressed up on a day out to an art gallery. Whilst admiring the artwork she also admires any man in sight and in an unusual boost of confidence begins to flirt with all of them by leaving little heart-shaped notes in discreet places asking them to meet her near the toilets. Still determined to find love, Sylvia unashamedly swaggers about the whole building winking and smiling at any man that catches her eye. But unfortunately she cannot escape her accident-prone character and soon falls over in full view of all the gallery guests, spilling the contents of her handbag onto the floor, including stockings, condoms and lubricant jellies - still hopeful as always! Humiliated and defeated, Sylvia runs to the toilet cubicle to hide and once again call on the only guy she does have a relationship with...God. |

| In her prayers we hear of how she has spent the last year: hanging around libraries, lounging at the local swimming pool, even sitting in museums all day in the hope that she will make contact with someone, anyone, who is male and single. But even with a new hairdo, some expensive make-up and a fancy dress, Sylvia admits she can't attract anybody and is more desperate than ever to have a boyfriend, even just to hold hands with. But she soon gets over her anxiety and starts analysing the 'hot totty' at the art gallery. Listing many of the audience members as potential male suitors, she reels off pros and cons until she settles on one and prepares to once again attempt a snare. Applying some lipstick and checking her underwear, she is soon ready and emerges confidently from her cubicle to attack her prey... |
